History and character
Terjola is first mentioned in 17th-century sources and became a town in 1983. The district was formed in 1930 as Chkhari, renamed Terjola in 1950, and has been a municipality since 2008. Georgian Travel Guide says Levan II Dadiani raided the area in the 17th century, emptying the settlements of Chikhori and Chkhori, which were rebuilt in the 18th.
Today it is a quiet district centre on the Tbilisi–Zestafoni highway. The municipality has one town and 45 villages, and museums of David and Sergo Kldiashvili.
