Updated:
When buying property it matters to check not only the price but also who owns the property, whether it carries any restrictions and on what terms the contract is concluded. The checking therefore follows the same order as the transaction: first the seller's right, then the condition of the property, then the terms of the contract and payment.
The material on verifying a property explains which documents and registry records to request. The developer checklist and the material on new builds apply when the building is still under construction and payment is made before the work is finished. The material on buying remotely shows which risks a deal through a representative adds, and the material on land describes the limits for foreigners and ways to find out the category of a plot.
What to prepare: a list of documents to request from the seller, questions for a lawyer, a copy of the contract before signing and enough time to check. If the checking is not finished, that is a reason to postpone payment, not to hurry it.

Frequently asked questions
Which documents should I ask the seller for?
The set depends on the property, but the usual start is the documents confirming ownership and a current extract from the public registry. The full order of checking is described in the material on verifying a property; the list for a particular deal is best agreed with a lawyer.
How does checking a new build differ from checking a finished apartment?
For a finished apartment you check the seller's right and any encumbrances. For a building under construction you add the construction permits, the terms of the developer's contract, the payment schedule and the moment the title is registered. These questions are gathered in the developer checklist and in the material on new builds.
What should I do if the check raises questions?
Do not pay until the circumstances are clear, ask for explanations in writing and show the documents to a lawyer. The site's materials do not replace such advice.
